RE: Junior Copywriter Position at Purple
To Whom It May Concern,
I am a recent English Literature graduate from the University of Manchester and am very interested in the job opportunity of Junior Copywriter at Purple.
My experience of copywriting comes from my five month placement as a Freelance Media, Marketing and PR Consultant at MLM Media. My role involved research and copywriting, and some of my work was published in At Home magazines feature article The A-Z of looking 10 years younger. I was expected to effectively manage several projects at a time, and prioritisation and time management were vital skills. Precision was also very important, and I was often the one to go through the final checks before publications were released. My position also involved administrative support, and I was required to liaise with clients via telephone and email.
I started university, reading English Literature, which not only allowed but required me to read and write, and thus to pursue my two passions. A high level of written work was expected at all times, which allowed me to graduate with my 2:1 classification, and a final score of 67.
In my second year at university, I started writing articles for the lifestyle section of The Mancunion, Manchesters student newspaper, and then also continued to write through my final year. Working to tight deadlines was essential, and multitasking and balancing university assignments with my newspaper commitments proved to be challenging, yet rewarding. I also wrote a cultural review for the Creatures of Culture blog, which can be accessed through this link: *, as well as in my university work.
I am also highly organised, efficient and accurate, qualities that are demonstrated in my roles as Proof-Reader and Office Manager over the past year. I was the final Proof-Reader of a 300 page book soon to be published by Earthscan, and meticulous attention to detail was essential. During my time as Office Manager, I was required to manage the diary of the Lead Consultant Psychologist at University Hospital Birmingham. This was an important job that involved scheduling appointments and correctly entering data. Both these jobs required the use of Microsoft Office packages, with which I have grown very comfortable. I am also a competent user of social media tools.
I am reliable, self-motivated and incredibly hardworking, but I also know how to have a good time. Whilst I do not have much experience in copywriting, I wish to develop my existing skills and also well as to learn new ones. I believe that I am a strong applicant for this position and I hope that I can have the opportunity to convince you of this.
Kind Regards,
Katarina Jankovic
