About me

Aurelia Karina is an Indonesian-based visual designer and an introverted artist who uses art as a form of self-expression. After nine years of working full-time, she began developing a growing passion for elevating her childhood hobby of drawing to new heights. Initially, she worked with traditional tools like drawing pens, markers, and watercolors for years before having the opportunity to expand into digital illustration after she got her first iPad. Her journey with digital tools shaped her approach to each artwork, imbuing it with curiosity and openness, allowing the work to unfold naturally and reveal its unique narrative. Over time, she transformed digital illustration into her visual identity by continuing to explore form, color, and emotion, giving her artwork its distinctiveness.

Inspired by modern Japanese illustrations and plus-size yoga videos she discovered in 2018, her artworks boldly employ vivid hues and disproportionate human characters, inviting viewers to perceive her unique perspective on human experiences. Her creative process is a journey of discovery: from studying visual communication overseas to working full-time at an office, being forced to adapt to remote settings due to Covid-19, and eventually choosing the freelance path until this day, she has participated in and gained exposure through numerous local and international competitions and exhibitions, including Unknown Asia, Bharatika Creative Design Fest, Sinestesia 6 International Exhibition, Weecanfest, and HUG. Her artworks have also been featured in several international publications and interviews, such as Suboart Magazine, Uppercase Newsletter, Alias Studio, Digital Art Blog, and Arts To Heart Project. Beyond these recognitions, she continues to thrive and push her creative practice forward by embracing new opportunities and creating vibrant, playful, and thought-provoking works that reflect her artistic journey.
