About me

Julia W. Andreolassi Knight I am of Anglo-Italian nationality and graduated in Fashion Design from the Istituto Marangoni (Milan) in July 2009 at the age of 22 with a final grade of 30/30. In September of the same year I began a 3 month internship with “Tricot Chic” which then became a fulltime position as their Graphics Designer. Tricot Chic is a Prèt-a-Porter Fashion House that began producing knitwear 40 years ago, a family business that started-out working for high fashion brands like Celine and Lanvin, and today has extended its own range into women's “total look”. TC's design and production are both “made in Italy” based just north of Milan. Having worked for TC for over 2 years I have been involved in the research, design and production of 5 Collections. Over this period I have had an opportunity to work in the following areas as part of the small team of 6, demonstrating high levels of initiative, independence, creativity and flexibility: - trend research - creating trend boards - collection “theme” research and development - fabric research and selection - technical drawing of collection pieces - both freehand and digital - creating fabric prints / t-shirt prints / jacquard graphics, using drawing skills, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator and photography. - application of transfer prints and Swarovsky crystals using press on first sample pieces - managing Italian and Asian suppliers during the sampling period (both fabrics and trimmings) - assembling colour cards for the collection - working closely with fabric printing companies to ensure the precision and quality of the final graphic image - working as part of a small team of designers, to tight deadlines and adapting to last minute requirements/emergencies At the same time as working for TC I have also co-founded the small fashion brand “Cadeau” with Elena Grappiolo, a fellow graduate from Istituto Marangoni. Our first capsule collection includes women's clothing and leather accessories, concentrating on interesting and innovative designs and high quality materials, to achieve a clean cut minimal look. Pieces of the accessories collection and a limited edition print t-shirt are currently available in a few selected boutiques in Italy. I am also presently collaborating with Colmar on their t-shirt prints.. The TC organisation is a typical all-Italian, small, family-owned business and I now feel the need to widen my horizons and seek a position in a larger more demanding working environment. I really enjoy print design and would like to have the opportunity to widen my expertise in garment print, design and development, building on the grounding received at Marangoni and Tricot Chic and I'd love to have the opportunity to work in the UK, to put my creative and organizational skills to the test, to grow professionally and experience the challenges and excitement typical of working in a young, fast-moving multicultural workplace. I love fashion - minimal, edgy, classic or vintage - and am passionate about my potential to deliver a special note of style and personality to any project I am involved in and hope to be given the opportunity to grow and develop and in so doing, contribute my voice in the world of fashion .
