About me
I would like to apply for the Sub-Editor role. Achieving this position would represent a milestone in my career; it is a role that has taken me two years to prepare for, in the course of which I have acquired a broad skill set in marketing, PR and digital advertising to complement my writing ability. I am also engaged in a number of freelance writing tasks and side projects, which I will elaborate on in this introductory letter.
I currently work for Greenlight Search, an industry leader in search engine and internet marketing and advertising. In my role of Web Relations Executive, I promote the online presence of clients in a variety of sectors (including retail, fashion, travel and online gaming). I issue press releases through various news wires, write and distribute articles for syndication, source partner links and assist my team in the production of promotional widgets, info-graphics and banners. I am also assuming responsibility for strategising and designing link building campaigns for clients. As a result of my time at Greenlight, I have a thorough understanding of SEO and the importance of high quality content in the pursuit of greater exposure for clients and an improved ROI.
I am in the process of establishing a network of my own websites (at least four related to the travel industry, two online gambling sites and two pertaining to fashion), and have written most of the content for these myself. I have also written in a freelance capacity for several popular websites, with subjects including technology, travel and online gambling. While at university, I wrote for a print magazine (the Edinburgh Middle East Report), and an online debating site. For the last couple of months I have been making notes in preparation for a short story I intend to write in the summer.
Prior to joining Greenlight, I completed two successful PR and public affairs internships, where the ability to conduct industry research, write briefing papers and produce and then disseminate press releases was of paramount importance. In the second of these internships (at Lexington Communications), one of my additional responsibilities was to manage the Twitter and Facebook accounts on behalf of a client. I tweeted on a daily basis and attracted some influential followers, among whom could be counted politicians and journalists.
I have excelled in all of my previous jobs, but my real passion is writing. I have sought opportunities to demonstrate this throughout my employment, in the hope of making copywriting my main responsibility. Achieving this goal would mark an exciting moment in my career: the point at which I was finally reconciling my personal interests with my work.
I would be delighted to discuss any aspect of my application in more detail; should you have any questions, please do send me an email.
Yours faithfully,
Jude Harrison
