About us

JSMarcoms was established during the summer of 2008 to provide creative communications solutions to clients who want the highest level of knowledge and expertise, without paying London agency prices.

Its principals (Jane Shepherd and Mitchell Gumbley) have a combined industry pedigree of over 50 years, both reaching board-level at major international advertising and communication groups.

We provide strategic, integrated and holistic solutions, from planning through to delivery of the finished article, off-line and on-line, for both B2B and B2C.

Our business model is simple and effective – clients always deal directly with the principals and we create bespoke teams of specialists with the skill sets required to effectively answer any given brief. This way, clients only ever pay for the skills they need, not for any they don’t!

Specialist skills represented within our team include; branding, copywriting, design, art direction, typography, digital development (for web, mobile and eDM), SEO, video production, photography, retouching, lead generation, artworking and pre-press production.

Recent clients include SMEs, start-ups and not-for-profit organisations, through to blue-chip and multi-nationals. Projects have ranged from developing web copy and style guides for a 'big-6' UK energy supplier, to devising an international ad campaign for a tourist board; from re-branding a fashion retail centre, to creating internal communications for a global mobile phone provider; from brand identity creation and roll-out for a Dutch technology specialist, to creating total event collateral for an international conference hosted by a professional institute; from launching a charitable initiative within the cosmetics industry, to leading a branding workshop and brainstorming for a national venues group and their publishing client.

The Principals:—

Jane is a highly experienced business executive with both online and offline marketing communications knowledge, gleaned over a long career that embraces a range of disciplines – from conventional advertising to sales promotion, from direct marketing to digital media.

Comfortable with both B2B and B2C, she has spent the majority of her working life at the London offices of international agency networks such as Bates, FCB, TBWA and WCRS, filling a number of key management roles within these organisations, including New Business Director and Head of Client Services.

Jane was also at the vanguard of the UK’s digital agency movement in the early ‘90s, joining the fledgeling digital agency – Bates Interactive – part of the Bates network; where besides heading their client services team, her direct client responsibilities included Amnesty International, British Waterways, the Foreign & Commonwealth Office, the History of Advertising Trust, the Home Office, Shell and War Child.

With experience spanning the spectrum of industry sectors, both domestically and internationally, Jane’s even managed to win a few awards for her clients along the way — including a coveted D&AD!

When not impressing clients with her advertising, marketing and branding skills, Jane finds time to sit on the Falkland Islands Memorial Chapel Flower Guild Committee at Pangbourne College, helping to maintain this fitting tribute to the memory of the South Atlantic conflict.

Mitchell is an award-winning senior creative, a conceptual leader and brand guardian. He is media neutral and holistic, with the reputation for being a creative catalyst and cohesive force – the creative ‘glue’ that brings everything together!

With experience gained at flagship London offices of international agency networks, he rose to the board-level position of Design Director, helping to shape and guide brand communication for clients across every conceivable sector.

A conceptual visionary, Mitchell is passionate about good creativity and championing its importance as a business tool. He is equally passionate about good design and the craft skills necessary to achieve it, with a portfolio of award-winning work that demonstrates his well-honed skills and attention to detail.

As part of a creative team, Mitchell's efforts have been recognised at numerous award shows. Including a Gold Lion at Cannes, inclusions in D&AD, Campaign Press, Campaign Poster, Creative Circle, Eurobest, The London International Advertising Awards, EPICA, The Travel Trade Awards and various other award bodies. His individual design and type skills have been singled out also, including 5 Silvers for International Type & Design at ATypI.

Mitchell’s experience includes 7 years as a consultant for the world’s 3rd largest communications group – Publicis – where he set up and ran a new unit for Creative Development & Brand Management in their London offices. Key client responsibilities included Renault UK, creating the UK dealership launch campaign for the New Clio; Hewlett-Packard, coordinating their OneVoice strategy throughout EMEA as their Brand Guardi
