About me
My name is Josh Wilkin, I am 26 years old. I come from an Italian, American and British background, growing up in Kent, England. I have dual citizenship with the United States. I am a proud gay man and outwardly share this identity through many aspects of my life. When describing myself I would use the words dedicated, passionate and loyal. My interests outside of work are drag, roller derby and theatre. From a young age I dedicated my time to acting up to degree level where I studied BA Acting and World Performance at East 15 Acting School. After I graduated from East 15, I primarily worked within the fringe festival circuit around the world as well as in TV production. I also started my own production company which mainly worked in live events but has now produced its first short film. Most recently, I have just finished a Masters in TV and Film producing at Metfilm school.
My time working on the fringe circuit saw the development of my organisational skills. With the most prominent role as a hub producer with Fringe World in Perth where I looked after 7 venues in a hub and had just under 60 shows across the period of 5 weeks. During this time it was the longest I had worked in a high pressure environment allowing me to learn my limits and how to pace myself and make my deadlines. I worked the majority of the job from an office environment so quickly picked up the skills to operate email accounts, printers, shared drives and web portals. While working for Hey Boss as an assistant producer I was responsible for the travel, accommodation and visas for our international artists travel to Australia. Tackling these tasks in good time was essential to deal with any budgetary issues or anything else that came up.
Through my masters and my freelance work outside of being a student I developed my skills in creative development, physical production and business and finance in relation to the creative screen industries. I have also learned key elements in story craft, script analysis to budgeting and scheduling, from marketing and distribution to finance strategies and business leadership principles. Where I saw the skills put into practice was working as a producer for BSV partners on a new product launch. This saw us crew the project, source insurance, keep track of the budget and create the call sheets. I also used this experience for my own final masters project where additionally we had to crowdfund. The project I produced had 4 very different locations and a final scene that required over 50 extras. Being the only producer I had to draw upon all the skills I had learnt both from the master program and my wider knowledge to pull it off. We are in the final post-production phases and we have an excellent product that I can't wait to roll out to film festivals. While I was at Metfilm we had several modules that helped us develop our pitching and presentation skills for a variety of formats and platforms. This was something I particularly enjoyed and excelled at.
