About me
I have completed an Illustration degree at Manchester Metropolitan University, attaining first class honours. I believe the knowledge and skills developed during my time there make me the ideal candidate for the role and I want to use these skills in the creative sector. My degree involved a great deal of independent research, self-motivation and a passion for art and design. I also have experience working in a marketing and design role and retail roles where excellent communication, organisational skills and confidence in high-pressured situations are essential.
My creative education and background has led to a strong understanding of design and marketing, with a particular focus on creating well thought out ideas and designs. The course covered many creative topics and I have put my course theory into practice in a variety of ways, creating work, such as illustration publications and website layouts. I have also gained a greater understanding of how to communicate initial ideas clearly and adapt those ideas. In this role I would prioritise making sure all content is planned and thought out, with every task completed to a high standard. Through my degree I also have a greater practical understanding of how to use programmes such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign and Adobe Illustrator to adjust and edit images or create graphics. In this role I would be fully committed to learning more about such computer programmes and I am also eager to learn skills in different web technologies.
My previous role within the marketing and publicity team at Penguin General, gave me valuable experience in a creative company. I was responsible for creating and mocking up designs for marketing material, such as banners and posters, used in the release of new book publications. This meant utilising my skills in InDesign and Photoshop to create attractive and persuasive marketing material. Often using Microsoft Excel to organise data I also researched potential markets that we could mail out promotional material to. That process taught me about the importance of publicising a product and creating relationships with customers, whilst having an awareness of current marketing trends. In this environment, working as part of a team and being able to communicate effectively was highly important. I often collaborated with other departments, publishers, designers and editors. I can apply these communication skills when liaising with other team members or when working with people across the industry. Furthermore I carried out 'scribing' on a various podcasts, which meant listening carefully and having a keen eye for detail. I highlighted relevant information that the company could then use to inform customers. I developed and learnt a lot during my time there and the experience and skills I gained would be very useful for this role.
I want an exciting opportunity for me to challenge myself to keep improving and offer my skills to the company. I am confident that I can bring my creativity and enthusiasm with me to any organisation and help build upon its reputation. As a creative individual with a keen interest in design, as well as a passion to progress within this industry, I would be very grateful to be considered for an opportunity with the company. I am open to the roles being asked of me and I strongly desire to improve my own skills and learn as much as possible.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to hearing from you.
Yours faithfully,
Jordan Rainey
