I am writing to apply for the position of Subeditor, posted on the Creativepool website on 13 January 2011. I recently returned to Great Britain from the United States, where (as is detailed in my CV) I worked for two years as a project editor in educational book publishing and, later in my career, for fifteen years as a copy chief (senior subeditor) at several award-winning consumer magazines widely renowned for maintaining the highest editorial standards.

Conversant with InDesign and InCopy, I have a solid grounding in the intricacies of producing grammatically flawless, typo-free and correctly styled copy on a timely basis in fast-paced environments, and I am thoroughly accustomed to working calmly, constructively and diplomatically with editors, photo editors and production managers. My subediting, copy-editing and proofreading skills have been honed over many years, and I have always had a keen eye for inconsistency and ambiguity. My commitment to quality assurance and meeting deadlines was recognised by every editor-in-chief and managing editor I worked for in the United States, and no issue of any of the magazines I worked on in New York went to press on my watch with a single typographical error or a sentence that was open to the slightest misreading.

Throughout my years as a project editor and copy chief in the United States, I was commonly viewed as a thoroughly organised ‘educated generalist' who could always be relied on to tackle the task at hand with extreme sensitivity and unerring accuracy. My editorial background, along with the vast amount of additional reading necessarily demanded by working in publishing in a media powerhouse like New York City, has familiarised me with a wide range of topics (including fashion and design), and I would very much relish having an opportunity to put my knowledge, skills and experience to use at Net-A-Porter.
