Senior User Researcher

As a senior user researcher you will plan, design, and lead research activities with users that help teams get a deep understanding of the people that use Bupa’s products and services. You’ll help others create research activities in larger teams and on more complex projects. This research will help to inform proposition, service, content, and interaction design so that our products and services meet the needs of our users and are truly customer centric. An extremely important part of everything we do at Bupa.

How you’ll help us make health happen:

• You will be working alongside a multidisciplinary team of researchers, UX designers, visual designers and content designers to help design experiences for all areas of the business. You’ll be responsible for planning and carrying out user research activities for and with the rest of the team.
• You should be able to build user-centred practices in new teams, align user research activities with wider plans to help develop propositions and you should be able to supervise and develop other user researchers in the team to assure and improve our user research practice.
• Alongside your research work, you will lead ‘Discovery’ sessions, workshops, be part of regular user testing sessions, research and design critiques and collaborate with the team throughout the design process. Open, collaborative, and iterative working is what we’re about.
• You’ll have experience of user centred design practices, and a solid research process that involves customers and stakeholders throughout and will be able to show us some of this in the interview.

Key Skills / Qualifications needed for this role:

• You understand and can help teams apply a range of methods to analyse research data and synthesise findings. You know how to engage sceptical colleagues in analysis and synthesis. You can advise on choice and application of techniques, and can critique colleagues’ findings to assure best practice.
• You can help teams understand the diversity of users of government services. You know how to include all kinds of users in appropriate research activities. You can advocate for inclusive practices and help teams design and deliver accessible services that work for all users.
• You have experience of, and can help teams adopt, a wide range of user research methods. You can plan user research for services with challenging user needs and complex user journeys. You can advise colleagues on the choice and application of research methods to assure best practice.
• You understand the social and technological context for government services. You can align user research activities to help your team understand changing user behaviour. You can help colleagues understand how digital technology is changing user behaviour, and the challenges and opportunities for healthcare, insurance and Bupa.
• You understand what problem the team is trying to solve. You can align user research activities to inform decision making and action.
• You know about the technologies used to build and operate digital services. You can collaborate closely with colleagues in different digital disciplines.
• You understand and have experience of a range of user-centred practices. You can help inexperienced teams adopt user-centred practices and embed them into their agile workflow. You can advocate for user research and engage sceptical colleagues and stakeholders.
