Homes & Gardens is Britain's oldest decorating magazine. Aspirational yet accessible, stylish, sophisticated and indulgent, Homes & Gardens showcases classic design that stands the test of time.

If you want to join one of the world’s leading design and decoration brands, creating brilliant short-form news content on the practical side of homes (cleaning, organisation, laundry, maintenance and more), get in touch. 'Solved' is one of our most important content pillars, and our expert-driven and authoritative pieces help the audience maintain a beautiful space.

What you'll be doing…

As News Writer (Solved), you'll pitch and write multiple unique daily news pieces for Homes & Gardens to optimise against and increase traffic through Google News and Discover, as well as Social and Partnerships channels (eg Apple News). You'll work alongside the social media editor and team to translate news content onto relevant social platforms, including first-person video and stills.

You'll combine ecommerce opportunities alongside news-led content to support revenue and traffic goals, work as part of a team producing news traffic and collaborate to learn from experiences and skills of others, and monitor news traffic opportunities for the sites and ensure content can be created quickly and effectively to maximise that opportunity. You'll also create and update content over key commercial events e.g. Black Friday, Boxing Day sales and attend key industry events.

Experience that will put you ahead of the curve…

  • Relevant editorial experience with a background in digital.
  • A keen interest in homes and interiors, and an ability to write for American audiences.
  • SEO expertise and a keen interest in and understanding of analytical tools, which you’ll use to form your content crafting.
  • Writing and editing skills - from the ability to write snappy headlines to tight grammar control, through to the ability to source the right image to draw people in.
  • Understanding of media law and image rights. You will be responsible for sourcing your own images for stories and flagging any legal issues.
  • Flexibility - news traffic doesn’t always peak 9-5 so some elements of the role might require a more flexible approach to hours at certain times of the year.
