THE ROLE:

The purpose of the Digital Communications Specialist role is to tell the BBC Studios company story through its social accounts and websites, supporting the work of the communications team, to help BBC Studios attract business, partners and talent and manage its reputation. 

The Digital Communications Specialist will draw on existing assets and create new assets to grow the reach and engagement of the company social accounts, making inventive use of content, talent and partners, according to the project priority. 

The role has a particular focus on planning as well as managing the evaluation of platforms, interpreting and reporting on data to help the communications teams understand what is working well, in order to maximise the impact of campaigns.

The Digital Communications Specialist will also manage www.bbcstudios.com, to ensure the site conveys the latest and most accurate information about the company and that the user journey is as simple and as efficient as it can be. In this role, you will:

  • Create and post impactful content for corporate social channels and websites to elevate BBC Studios corporate presence online. 
  • Edit, commission and write material and create assets, supporting announcements, speeches, events and major corporate moments, ensuring content is appropriate for target users (i.e. including the global creative industry, journalists and opinion formers).  
  • Plan, organise and prioritise social activity, working very closely with the wider communications and business teams.
  • Embed digital skills in the wider team, providing advice and training to ensure effective posts are being drafted by announcement owners. 
  • Lead on evaluation, data analysis and reporting, sharing learnings with wider team and stakeholders, to inform strategy and enhance future results.  
  • Carry out production editor responsibilities, such as editing external web pages; uploading content and ensure that all published content is signed off for compliance and adheres to BBC Studios and BBC editorial standards, liaising with the BBC Media Centre site lead where appropriate. 
  • Lead on editorial risk and compliance issues, working closely with the BBC Studios Editorial Standards team and keeping the rest of the team informed. 
  • Lead on crisis communications for the digital communications team, working closely with the relevant Heads of Communication and Editorial Standards team, keeping the other Digital Communications Specialist across and informed. 
  • Support with senior leader LinkedIn posts, working closely with the other Digital Communications Specialist, relevant Heads of Communications and wider communications and business stakeholders. 
  • Ensure all published content complies with BBC Studios policies on diversity and relevant BBC Studios safety rules, procedures and guidelines.

WHAT DOES IT TAKE?

Essential:

  • Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills (spoken and written), able to communicate clearly and concisely to a range of audiences. 
  • Proven experience of using a range of digital and social media platforms/tools and CMS and Photoshop. Able to produce and edit rich content for social platforms and websites. 
  • Strong planning, prioritisation and organisational skills and attention to detail. 
  • Able to establish and maintain credibility and effective working relationships with a wide range of contacts, as well as the ability to influence and advise stakeholders.
  • Able to collaborate and work effectively in a team and lead on projects. Also able to work on own initiative to solve problems when required. 
  • A good working knowledge of using social media to promote content and news stories.
  • Web development and production skills and ability. 
  • Good working knowledge of measurement tools like Google Analytics.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge and/or experience of the media/broadcasting environment. 
  • Video editing skills.
