About me

Dear Sir/Madam,

I have just finished university and have a 2:1 degree in English Literature. I would love to pursue a career in copywriting because I love to write, and I think that this position would be an excellent way to kick start my career. In order to gain experience, I have worked in a variety of communications and journalism roles during university breaks.

As part of the communications department at the Financial Conduct Authority, I worked with many different teams to create press releases, write pieces for the website, and help to create the initial stakeholder communications plan for the migration of Consumer Credit from the OFT to the FCA. I had the opportunity to work in the FCA's busy press office and provided support to senior press officers. This required a high level of organization, and gave me a good knowledge of media relations. My administrative duties also included organizing meetings using the FCA's computer system, and taking minutes during those meetings.

At the Financial Adviser and the Leicester Mercury I worked with small editorial teams and learned how to draft reports from press releases, as well as find and source stories. During my time at the Financial Adviser, I also managed to develop a few contacts who contributed to my articles. As a result of my work experience, as well as the nature of my essay-based degree, I have a very good understanding of language and grammar, and I am a confident public speaker. I also have a personal blog, which I update with posts about various different topics; therefore I have developed an adaptable writing style.

Currently, I am working as a waitress/bar tender at a gastro pub, however I am also involved in the marketing and PR department, and work under the Marketing Manager to write press releases and pieces for the website. I also help to manage social media to promote the pub in as many outlets as we can reach; therefore I have learnt how to adapt my writing style to attract customers.

As a recent graduate, this position would be a fantastic opportunity to gain experience in the industry, and further develop my written skills. I think that I would make a great candidate due to the experience I have already gained. I very much hope that I am the type of person you are looking for and would welcome the chance to meet up to discuss further.

Yours faithfully,

Jessica Taylor
