About me
I've been leading multi-disciplined creative teams for many years, setting goals and communicating visions in a large matrix organisation. Always looking for creative opportunities as well as setting objectives and priorities, I'm an open leader who believes in connecting people, simplicity, and that the best content comes from the most content people. I'm driven by keeping the team machine working whilst looking after the individuals within it.
Career highlights: I was creative director of photography on the BBC One Oneness campaign, responsible for commissioning Martin Parr to change the look and feel of BBC One through its idents.
That year I also curated an exhibition of BBC photography in London - 'Portraits' at the Elephant West gallery. A showcase of promotional photography.
Both these projects had outreach attached to them to give young and diverse talent a leg-up in the industry.
Crucial to the BBC's success and connection are the iPlayer and Sounds platforms, and I was the lead for these brands in terms of visuals and photography - working with marketing, production, content and UX to create the most impactful imagery possible to help audiences connect with and find content.
I'm passionate not only about great creative execution, but also in finding and creating the simplest processes possible to make this happen. At the BBC I created a huge network of colleagues across all disciplines - from commissioning, through production, marketing and communications. I take great pride in weaving disciplines together to be a creative enabler and conduit so that everyone's happy working together to get the best out of each other. I'm always striving to create working relationships that focus on positivity and joined-up thinking. For me, the simplest way of doing things is usually the smartest, and also the way that ensures happy people working collaboratively in an unencumbered way. It's also the most efficient, and gets the best value out of any project.
Outside of work I'm the chair of governors at a local outstanding school, where I've governed for many years. I'm also a part-time actor, seen in many commercials over the years. My main hobby is cycling, and I've worked as a volunteer for many years on charity bike events all over Europe - working as tour leader and cycle guide.
