About me
I am currently employed by Booker Cash and Carry in Brighton and have been with the company for over the past five years. I feel that this job has limited opportunities and hence I am actively seeking new employment which provides both challenging work and a clear career path.
To further my knowledge of the web design industry and their practices, I have completed a Microsoft Certification course in website design. Featuring heavily in this course is the knowledge and skills of hand-coding HTML5, CSS3 and XHTML allowing me to further my skillset. This course has been challenging but rewarding in teaching me strict coding rules and to adapt to the ever changing platforms to view websites, being desktop computers, laptops, tablets and smart phones, so that the intended audience can have the same experience on any device. My biggest achievement of the course, so far, is being able to understand the workings of JavaScript and JQuery, both of which I have found challenging in the past.
Whilst I was doing a Foundation Degree in Web Technology, I realised that during the digital media aspects of the course that I excelled more with the design aspects. Some of these digital media tasks required me to create logos and house styles for businesses which are then incorporated into a website using HTML and CSS languages. Having been familiar with Adobe Photoshop, since starting my Photography A-Level, my skills would enable me to create unique logos and any other graphics that would be required to make the website visually appealing to the target audience. During this two-year course my attention to detail has been focused to the smallest pixel due to the strict design features I had on my websites.
During and after completing the Foundation Degree, I have approached several local businesses with the offer of creating an increased internet presence using the skills, which I have learnt. Due to this approach, I completed my first commercial project where I had to create a new logo, menu and website for a new local restaurant. The overall outcome of this project has added a new found drive and passion for this area of work, which in turn has made me even more determined to succeed in this market.
When I was employed at Booker Cash and Carry, Newquay my job role is Delivery Coordinator, which required me to run the delivery team underneath the Delivery Supervisor. Despite this job title and position, I was regularly required to manage the department solely ensuring the smooth running and efficiency of the team. The delivery department consists of ten members of staff to both collect the goods and deliver them to the customers on time. Within this role, I was entrusted to plan out the dailyfor the in-house team as well as the effective coordination of the delivery drivers, vehicles and routes to meet our delivery time criteria.
