Jan Schlüter's lovestory with music began in the early 80ties when he did some, actually lots of djing. So consequently he joined the music industry around 1990. Young willing and unable he started at Warner Music Germany as a press promotion person. Within two years the young man worked in different departments like TV-promoter and in the super ecxiting Sales Marketing team.
Being experienced enough Schlüter joined Container Records in 1992. A famous record store at Hamburg´s Reeperbahn. He build up the distribution branch at Container now called Word And Sound and started a record label called Container Records. The label releaseed several great club records and did countless licensing deals worldwide. The label was sold in 1993 to Polygram Germany and Jan Schlüter started a distribution company called PP Sales Forces within the Public Propaganda network.
PP Sales Forces established a fine reputation with exclusive label deals with the likes of Compost Records and Jazzanova´s Sonar Kollektiv plus exclusive US labels like Strictly Rhythm, MAW, Henry Street, and British labels like Dorado, Filter, Mo Wax and Ninja Tunes to name a few. Schlüter also did freelance a&ring for Motor/Polygram Germany and AMV, Alster Musik Verlag. In 1998 Jan Schlüter started at Yo Mama Records in Hamburg as a Label Manager and Head of International. He was responsible for co-working with Sony International Network Europe (S.I.N.E.) for PATRICE and took care of several major German HipHop acts like FETTES BROT, Fünf Sterne deluxe, einszwo and many others.
In May 2000 Jan started BEI SCHLÜTER, an artist management company. First clients were famous German Tech-Rap super-group DEICHKIND plus German Indie-Rock Band DIE STERNE and developing electronic artists like WAREIKA and Kindergarden kid-rap-crew Deine Freunde. Furthermore he help to start Eimsbush Entertainment, a small record label owned by renowned german Pop/Rap-Star Jan Delay form BEGINNER rap crew.
2005 Schlüter established a selective publishing branch together with EMI Publishing. In his portfolio are compositions for artists like Nneka, Patrice, Fettes Brot, Dendemann, Deichkind and some movie scores as well. In 2010 Jan Schlüter started to consult independent record labels as well as music and entertainment companies as well as artist and artist managements. Schlüter consulted digital commerce department at Warner Music Germany and was a longtime freelancer for Believe Digital. Schlüter also developed new viral marketing strategies for book publisher Carlsen and mobile network company yourfone.
End of 2016 he joined WITTY MUSIC AGENCY in Hamburg.
And quite sometimes he is still playing records.
