Jan Chmielewski

Storyboard and Concept Artist

Jan was born in Poland where he studied fine art in School of Art in Koszalin. After getting his A- levels he's taken an opportunity to come and further develop his talent in London where he graduated from Ravensbourne College in England with Ba Hons in Animation.Over the years Jan became fluent with various artistic media- oils, acrylics, watercolours,

as well as clay and wood sculpture . His earliest inspirations come from old Polish masters, later to be influenced by communist era animations, 80-ties cinema posters, comic art of Ashley Wood and Simon Bisley as well as contemporary filmmakers like Jim Jarmusch , Tarantino or Ridley Scott.

Having developed strong hand drawing skills his first step into the world of animation was to help develop characters for a short film made by Plynny Azot Animation Studio in Koszalin, Poland . Along many other media projects were storyboards for music videoclips and TV commercials ChilliProductions studio in Wroclaw. Most recently Jan worked with Sopocka Wytwornia Filmowa (Sopot Film Company) on development of storyboards for TV commercial promoting Investments in Poland and storyboards for a music clip "Montelansino".

While studying in London Jan also took part in design and development of 3d characters for animated shorts at Captain Photon Ltd, as well as designed and created concept art for The Arrival, short film produced by Olga Barr.

Jan also designs logos and graphics and works in parnership with Marketing agency Brandish.pl, also paints bespoke portraits and illustrations which he exhibits and promotes on his website janchmielewski.com .
