About me
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing this letter to you in the hope that I might have a chance at working for your company.
It has been almost two years since graduating from Oxford Brookes with my Postgraduate Diploma in Architecture and since then, I have meticulously developed the way I work and the way I portray myself as a designer. The root of my knowledge and skill set sprouted from a fundamental love for design and the human interaction with and within it. Architecture was a brilliant foundation to grow from; It taught me that design is not about the singular but about the multiple aspects that it is made up from.
I took this attitude into my professional career at Banbury Walker Studio as a junior and now middleweight designer. I have had a hand in almost every job that has come in through the door, from the landscape architecture, branded retail space, interior design, experiential space, product launch events and ephemeral modular architecture. I have a major influence throughout the entire design process, from architectural form and interior layouts to FF&E and structural detailing, whilst constantly liaising with the client and engineers and managing other members of the team; teamwork is key to great design. The experience has moulded me into a fully rounded multi-disciplinary designer who will take any brief as it comes and respond with a multiple of fitting solutions and concepts.
The context of a concept or project has always intrigued me, it is the form being married to it's environment through the use of light, materials and space; and how they can be manipulated to create something fresh and forward-thinking. It is this phenomenological aspect of the design that has a large focus within my work.
My thirst for knowledge will allow you to place me in any number of contexts or teams with the assurance that I will go beyond the level of excellence expected. Effort and motivation is a constant within my work ethic which allows me to achieve the goals being set and follow through on strict deadlines whilst under pressure.
I live and breathe design and have a very large appetite for the new and exciting. I believe that I would be a vital and positive addition to your company, and would love the chance to come in and show you more of my work.
I have attached my CV and a few Work Examples for your perusal.
I look forward to hearing from you,
Yours Sincerely,
James Van Tromp
