About me

My name is James Hudson, I have recently graduated from Northumbria University with a 1st class honours degree in BSc Computer Aided Product Design (CAPD). The CAPD course included a range of design and engineering modules, including: 3D CAD modelling and simulation, rapid prototyping, simulation and analysis, materials, manufacture, product development and user considerations.

The course also covered a number of group and individual design projects, varying in length from 4 weeks up to 9 months. These projects concerned the design, development and manufacture of a range of products. Additional details such as product design specifications, technical drawings and detailed reports were required to document the progress of each project.

Design projects which I have been involved with include: indoor lighting, office products, anti bag theft devices, engineering shafts and couplings, retail storage solutions, as well as a number of graphic design exercises. These projects have received mainly positive feedback from lecturers, accounting for over 70% of the CAPD course work.

My final year design project concerned the design, development and manufacture of a collapsible storage tray for use in supermarkets, intended to reduce storage space and also improve overall usability. The completed product was rapid prototyped and tested by users.
