Dear team,
I am writing to you regarding the editor placement that was recently advertised, and would be most grateful if you would consider my application for this position. Looking to both further my career in editorial, whilst also extending my industry experience, this vacancy is ideal.
Since completing a Masters in Publishing in 2007 I was employed at Penguin Group, first in Travel and Reference and then the Lifestyle division. Since then I moved to Scholastic, working on a range of front and back list titles, all of which have been full-colour books displaying high quality and often involving extensive negotiation with international companies.
My time spent at Scholastic has versed me in the ways of the large-scale dynamic publisher so I feel moving would afford a smooth transition. Recently I worked on a Quark-to-InDesign project regarding the Eyewitness Travel Guide series as the decade-old files were updated. At Fahamu I was involved extensively on the award-winning weekly newsletter Pambazuka News which boasted international contributors (and therefore much editorial collation between the disparate pieces of text submitted). I worked intensely on editing authorsâ€(TM) copy whilst also writing my own for Fahamuâ€(TM)s marketing materials. In December 2009 I completed an Editorial and Proofreading evening class at the London School of Publishing, which has helped to further my editorial and copywriting skills and for which I achieved a Merit grade.
Please do contact me should you have any queries whatsoever, and I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Kind regards,
James Finan.
