About me

Throughout my time studying Transportation design I have become aware that my preconceptions about design have vanished and found that there is more to a successful design than how it looks. My ideas of effective design were very basic when I began studying. I found it difficult to see beyond the aesthetics of a design and understand why it was or was not successful. I understand now that my future as a designer rests not only on 2D and 3D art work, but on the implementation of user and scenario based design. Successful companies now understand that a successful design comes through market research, understanding potential users, building costs, the user costs and spending power, scenarios and even good timing.

These are the aspects of design I must understand to aid my own future as a successful designer.

As a developing junior designer my skills and ability are high and still improving through time practicing and with experience. Northumbria University has taught me the importance of working as either a motivated individual or as a product member of a design team. I have been pushed with tight deadlines and still managed to produce high quality work. I am extremely hard working and enjoy pushing myself and undertaking new and varied projects to the best of my ability. Although my course is largely concerned with vehicle design, I am still willing to explore other aspects of design such as product and graphics as they all have much in common and would greatly improve my own experience.

While working on the different design briefs my course requires I have developed a keen interest and reliance on quick investigative and explorative sketching. Through practice I have developed this into a reliable way to communicate my work through explanatory sketches and persuasive final renderings. I have also developed my skills in Photoshop and have gained the ability to create quick and powerful renderings using that programme.

Overall I am a willing and capable junior designer who is looking to gain experience in as many ways as possible before I finish University. My design skills are already impressive and are still improving through practice and experience, I understand the importance of idea generation and quick sketches to explore a design brief and have developed these abilities to a high standard. I would make a great addition to a design team but while still at university would also undertake any freelance work to the best of my abilities.
