About me

I am a recent 2:1 BA (Hons) Furniture and Product design graduate with a strong desire to work within the furniture industry and in particular the retail and sales sides of this trade. You will see from my background that I have gained a wide variety of transferable and specific skills, which relate to working in such an environment that you should require.

During a 5 month work placement at renowned retailer Thorsten Van Elten in London, I was able to work on developing his current product range, packaging and logistical solutions, contact and place orders with suppliers and press enquiries whilst also being present in his shop and constantly dealing with clients both front of house and also on the telephone and web. This increased my interest in the retail side of furniture and gave me an interesting insight into how this side of the industry is run.

Another 4 month placement in Milan working for the multi-award winning designer Isao Hosoe, also gave me a great insight into the design and development of products and in particular office task chairs. I learnt a vast amount about ergonomics, material specifications and presentation skills whilst working in a team based environment

Currently I am in the initial stages of starting up a new Nottingham based furniture design business. This role includes several varying task such as dealing with media/supplier enquiries, coordinating press coverage/exhibitions, producing websites and promotional materials, developing new products and running the financial side of this venture. As this is a new business idea I wish to expand my knowledge and experience in this industry further and feel that working for people like yourselves can help me develop and strengthen my ideas for this project as I am determined to pursue a career in this field.

During University I expanded my knowledge of and capability in the use of Microsoft programs such as Internet Explorer, Word, Access, Xcel, PowerPoint, Adobe Photshop, Illustrator and InDesign as well as CAD software such as AutoCAD, 3DS Max and Solidworks

My academic studies have increased my ability to express critical opinions within a sustained argument. A high level of research and analytical reading was essential to reaching a high standard through my products. The experiences of producing a product from the initial to final stages and also writing a 1st class dissertation have increased my ability in these areas.
