About me
I'm a well seasoned communication enthusiast , writer , design thinking practitioner and a social impact coach. Previously, I worked for Amici Dei Bambini (an Italian International organization) based in Nairobi in a project called Transforming life of institutionalized children and care leavers in Nairobi and Kajiado counties.
Working with a multi-disciplinary team of 1 legal officer, 2 social workers, 2 counselors and other staff members of children institutions together with community leaders. My tasks were Updating data base of sponsored children, ensuring that school and home visits are done by social workers , counseling sessions for children are promptly done, preparation and orientation of sponsored children , selection criteria , checking budget for school needs ,solving conflicts/problems encountered by team, negotiating with schools to accept children for admission , following progress , Editing articles written by team about program for organization website, newsletter and donors.
The main objective of the project was to integrate back children in community from children institutions, of which at end of project we managed to place 1200 children back to the family, 300 in foster care and 200 for adoption. The 1500 children who were the beneficiary in the project are still being supported in education through the program, a good number have completed university, others still in secondary schools and tertiary colleges. Up to 1200 families were empowered, though alternative livelihood trainings engaging in small businesses and projects to support child in family.
I am accountable, passionate, optimistic and very hard working person that besides my duties I use to organize events and activities geared towards fundraising for the program that is buying handcrafts in Kenya and selling them to Italy during summer, also persuading friends and colleagues to support program through donations or individual support of a child in school. This initiative however much smaller made a difference in the program by supporting additional 130 children enroll in vocational training, school including accommodation for several who did not have anywhere to go and were above the age of 18 years to live in community while studying and looking for job opportunities.
I possess proficient article writing and editing skills, I am a very friendly and experienced person who respects everyone. I believe in team work and know the sweetness of team achievement as compared to individual. I'm open minded and experienced working with cross- cultural teams and also people of various skills based on volunteer programs, projects and initiatives.
At the end of project, I enrolled at the university to pursue a course in communication, of which I successfully acquired Diploma in communication. At the moment I'm pursuing bachelors in development communication through online studies at the same university, also participating in an IBM project sponsored by digital Africa pursuing various Design thinking courses online and many more.
