About me

Dear Red Sofa,

My name is Jake Guest and I wish to put my name forward for the role you have advertised on Creative Pool for a Games Art Illustrator. I am currently studying a BA Honours Degree in Digital Media Design with a specific focus on Concept Artwork and Illustration due to finish in June of 2015.



During my time at University I have worked on both briefs for my Degree as well as self-initiated projects. This drive to create my own projects has allowed me to develop a body of work I am proud of, as well as allowing me to progress my skills to the point of producing fast, detailed and accurate artwork. I believe i would be a great fit for Red Sofa as my inherent desire to learn has not only allowed me to become proficient with many aspects of the Adobe Creative Suite, specifically Photoshop and Illustrator, but my drive to learn and progress gives me the consistent passion to create elaborate and immersive artwork.

My love of Concept Design and my desire to create the best work I can within a company as inspiring as Red Sofa, has led me to utilise my last 3 months at University using my assessed Independent Project to both gain and refine my knowledge of ZBrush, Maya and the Unity Engine. I hope that this drive, desire and acquisition of knowledge will put me in a position where I can begin to establish my career in a field I love.



Much of my creative influence comes from literature, films and games, creating both environment and character designs derived from some of these works. My equal enthusiasm for both the fantasy genre and illustration have allowed me to fully immerse myself in my creations, enabling me to fuse two mediums that I feel fully define me as a person. This passion for both gaming and my desire to be part of the creation of a hugely fully immersive world, has inspired me to dedicate my efforts completely in this field.

Alongside my studies I have maintained full time employment. This has not only allowed me the ability to pay for the Second year of study, but has also proved my ability work well under pressure, within tight time constraints and further demonstrates my commitment to my course and to the field.



Motivated by my skill set and my desire to learn all I can about the work of game creation, I would love for the opportunity to become a creative member of Red Sofa. I feel the experience would allow me to progress, as combined with my clear aspiration and desire for progression, I will utilise and value every aspect of working alongside highly talented professionals within the industry.

Much of the work displayed on my portfolio site has been done outside of University and my desire to progress has pushed me further than I thought possible within the confines of the course. It is my absolute passion and desire to work in the world of game illustration and I know that given the opportunity I would not disappoint.
