About me
Like many of my peers, I've traversed the branding world through its many genres, sectors and disciplines. Worked with and for the well knowns and independents. Taught and been taught. And from the start been thrown in at the cultural and creative deep end.
Recently someone asked what I do
I've been creative adviser to a billionaire conglomerate chairman across his brand portfolio, cultural attaché and design curator for his residences. Notable chapters included dimensionalising luxury, redefined Austrian banking, headhunted by the Samsung daughter, have had my own brand, dabbled in property and a resident of the Ritz for several months. However I still enjoy the simple pleasure of setting typography and the best things are often the simplest.
On the journey to be a polymath the key is analysing the problem and then creating a solution. Design is only one of the tools, entrepreneurship spirit as another with common sense as the solvent.
That is why I am Nobilis exists...
Mediums change and evolve from grand gestures of architecture, emergent digital et al but sometimes it's the tiniest detail and the Ogilvy 'Hathaway shirt' moment that leaves the longest impression.
All the greatest businesses came for infectious enthusiasm and doing things a bit differently.
Thats what I am Nobilis does...
_______________________
I create 'benefit' to brands through design and consumer understanding. Sometimes it's winning the business pitch, other times holistic branding or art directing the photoshoot in a faraway land.
'Change is the only constant', so managing this in the context of the brand is paramount without resorting to 'me too' tactics. The convergence of analogue and digital mediums in tangible and intangible ways leads to the 'unified theory' of brand experiences design.
Each project had valuable lessons, from the pure aesthetics of proportions and tone to strategic problem solving, helping the likes of G2 (Grey) and Saatchi on initiatives for Dunhill and BA.
The difference between branding for a bank, a supermarket, an airline, a credit card or toothpaste is increasingly hard to tell these days. I believe in truth in branding with integrity and creating something unique. Maybe oldschool but paper and pencil is still best. No 'design by default'.
I listen, think, then design.
