About me

I believe that my excellent written communication skills, hardworking and quick-learning nature, combined with my confidence and energy make me an ideal candidate for this role.

Copywriters need to engage their audience with powerful and persuasive writing, which requires a versatile style and assertive tone. I developed both of these during my three years studying English and Related Literature at the University of York. I read voraciously and studied topics in detail, extracting the relevant material and using it to shape clear, concise essays. I learnt to create convincing arguments that were also startlingly original, converting dense theories into accessible, clear English. I always insist my work meets the highest standards of accuracy, using my sharp eye for detail to proofread my writing. The hard work pulled off and in 2013 I graduated with a first.

In my role as communications intern for the charity Freedom from Torture, I have gained experience writing engaging and creative copy for the website, newsletter, blog and social media. I have learnt how to write to house style, maintaining a consistent tone throughout various channels, which is a crucial part of developing a brand. This experience has proven to me the importance of accurate, creative and innovate copy to drive forward a campaign. I have worked as part of a small, dedicated team, contributing ideas to formulate communications strategies and implementing these to deadline.

I pursue my love of writing in my own time as well as in my work. I write for various websites and online platforms about topics that interest me, adapting my style and tone depending on the intended audience. I have begun to collect these pieces together on my blog: wordsbyisabellacipirska.wordpress.

My experience teaching English as a foreign language in Buenos Aires taught me to understand, interpret and present complex grammatical concepts clearly to a range of audiences. I developed excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with all kinds of people- from professionals at an insurance company to underprivileged children from the city slums. Establishing myself in a foreign city could be tough at times but it taught me to be resilient and independent, when making new contacts or negotiating work contracts. Teaching required being extremely organised. Every week I designed and delivered my own lesson plans, marked homework and completed progress reports, juggling a multitude of conflicting deadlines. I created a termly scheme of work, which I was responsible for implementing over a period of three months. I worked independently with minimal supervision and loved the freedom and creativity this permitted me.

I would love this opportunity to further develop my copywriting skills and be a part of an exciting, innovative new company.
