About me

I am a recent graduate from the Barcelona School of Design & Engineering with a Masters in Graphic Design and Editorial Projects. For my undergraduate degree I studied Fine Arts at the Polytechnic University of Valencia specialising in Graphic Design and Illustration. This included an Erasmus year abroad in the UK, where I continued my studies and improved my English at the University of Leeds' School of Design.

Throughout my university education I have developed experience across a wide range of subjects, including classes at degree-level in colour, drawing, painting, sculpture, composition, typography, photography and design. In my final year at the Valencia Polytechnic, I had the opportunity to become more proficient in Graphic Design where I could incorporate my artistic knowledge into my work and I also had the chance to become better acquainted with Adobe In-design, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustration.

During my masters I had the chance to work with some of the most talented designers in Barcelona, such as Pablo Juncadella from Mucho Studio, from whom I learned branding design, and how to develop a project from the initial idea into a successful final design. I also had the chance to study Editorial Design with Albert Folch from Folch Studio, who taught me how to use typography and layouts in a powerful way.

During this year I also worked as an intern in the Art and Design Department of a well-known publishing house in Spain. Balancing work with my studies was very challenging. I learned crucial skills such as how to manage my time well, to be decisive and able to think creatively under pressure, and to produce high quality work to strict deadlines.

During this year I also worked as an intern in the Art and Design Department of Grupo Planeta, a well-known publishing house in Spain. I was responsible for producing high-quality book covers, both individually and as part of a team. I worked in close contact with the senior designers, and had day to day communication with the editorial, marketing and production teams.

Balancing work with my studies was very challenging. I learned crucial skills such as time management, decision-making, how to think creatively under pressure and produce work to a high standard according to strict deadlines.

I have a good eye for innovative ideas, and I would be very enthusiastic about the opportunity to contribute to your design team. I am highly motivated, and would be very keen to make the most of my time with you. I feel that my desire to learn and my knowledge of many aspects of design would make me a good match for this position.

Thank you for considering my application,

Irene Martinez Costa
