About me
After 14 years in London writing for The Times and a number of other national newspapers, I have been back in the North West for seven years working as a freelance journalist and editor, copywriter, media trainer/consultant, conference speaker and guest lecturer.
Since returning to Manchester, I have worked for, among others, The Guardian, The Mail on Sunday, The Times, the i, BBC Radio 5 Live, BBC 6 Music, BBC local radio, The Big Issue in the North, the Yorkshire Post, Northern Soul, the Daily Star, Creative Tourist, Marketing Manchester, the Manchester Salon, and the British Theatre Guide. Last year I became Money Editor of The Spectator.
While in London, I freelanced for most of the national newspapers, including The Daily Telegraph, The Independent on Sunday, The Sunday Times and the Financial Times, as well as a number of leading trade publications.
As a media trainer and consultant, clients have included listed companies, NGOs, global financial firms and public sector bodies. I am currently contracted as a consultant to a number of financial companies and PR agencies, both in the North West and London.
Nearly four years ago, I set up a website called Northern Soul about the North of England. The webzine, which focuses on culture and enterprise, is going from strength to strength with a team in excess of 60 writers, multimedia specialists and photographers, the majority of whom are professional journalists.
