About me

I graduated in 2005 with a first class degree in Textile Design at Winchester School of Art specialising in printing and embellishment. My current work is inspired by, notions of exploration, discovery, and preservation. Visually I make fantasy worlds through the arrangements of objects, by juxtaposing organic elements with man-made structures and icons with movement. With these worlds in mind I work onto fabrics using Shibori, hand dyeing and screen-printing techniques, with appliqué and embroidery detailing. In this way I create fabrics that are both tactile and intriguing to the eye.

During the second year of my degree I went on a 4 month study exchange to Tokyo Zokei University. During my time in Japan I learnt traditional techniques of printing and dyeing textiles, I also did a week's apprentiship with a Katazome artist who taught me some of the techniques of his craft.

In July I received the 2005 Mantero Fabric Prize for Innovative Fashion Fabrics or Fabric Designs and exhibited at New Designers in London. I was also selected by Texprint to be one of the new textile design graduates to exhibit at 'First View' in London at Indigo in Paris last September where I received a high level of interest in my work and sold designs to private collectors and design companies.

My skills include screen printing, hand painting and dyeing fabric, stencil cutting, shibori, embroidery, appliqué, heat transfer and Photoshop.
