ABOUT

This piece reimagines the famous Ophelia by John Everett Millais, through a pop culture lens, featuring Star Wars character Padmé Amidala in her funeral gown as seen in the memorable scene from Revenge of the Sith. The visual parallels between the two were so striking—it felt like such a natural fit. Padmé’s funeral gown, also referred to as the water gown, is a beautiful blue that ripples like water, echoing the ethereal quality of the original Pre-Raphaelite painting. This is a personal project created to express and combine my love of classical painting with pop culture, which are both a big part of what I do. It was self-initiated rather than commission and serves as a visual love letter and exploration into the joy I find in both traditional painting and modern day pop culture.
