I am a qualified graduate with experience of working within the fashion industry and I am applying for the position of Designer that your company is presently advertising. I believe my skills and experience in design correspond to the requirements of the role, as outlined in the person specification.
I graduated from Nottingham Trent University with a Second Class First Division degree in BA Hons Fashion Knitwear and Knitted Textiles.
As an integral part of my degree, I was required to complete a year's work placement and I was fortunate to secure an internship at LF in New York's fashion district. My role within the LF team was very diverse, as I was often required to support others with elements of their work to ensure that deadlines were met. I learned new design skills and techniques at LF and I was also able to diversify from my knitwear background into working with men's woven garments in their Men's Dress Shirt department.
My abilities in co-ordination and organisation are further demonstrated by my duties as year representative and my elected role as Chair Person of the final year fashion show committee. This role required significant responsibility and commitment in terms of time and effort. I enjoyed the challenges and I am proud the show was a huge success for the whole year. The role enhanced my confidence and developed my interpersonal skills.
Since graduating, I relocated from Liverpool to London, Ealing Broadway, in order to pursue a career within the fashion industry. I thrive when working in a fast-paced organisation with experience working for a short lead supplier. During my time there, I worked closely with the senior trend designer, analysing the AW16/17 catwalks. From this we worked together on predicting the future trends for the season and tapering for our customers. I was able to take the trends and apply them to my designing for formal jersey, this was a huge advantage and contributed to significant orders on my designs.
