PROFILE - Career development and achievements

I have spent the last four years of my academic career studying BSc (Hons) Computer Aided Product Design at the University of Wolverhampton, The School of Engineering and the Built Environment.

I have thoroughly enjoyed the Computer Aided Design element of my course and have relished the use of Pro Engineer, AutoCAD, 3D Studio-max and Adobe Photoshop. I realise that this is just one of the key skills required of the modern designer and consequently I have spent a considerable amount of time in the workshop where I have improved my model making skills.

During the year of 2004 I joined Savekers Ltd in my placement year, as part of my course, which was very useful. It helped me to appreciate the design, creativity and innovation process in its entirety, from concepts to the ethics that surround today's design and production phase. Within its busy environment, I was engaged with the realities of working with budgets and deadlines, and the cost implications of design proposals.

Working within a creative atmosphere with a team who are passionate about design was an enjoyable experience. I also enjoy the challenge of working on different projects. So far the projects that I have worked on are exhibition stand designs, a range of retail display designs, furniture designs and balustrade designs.

For the final year of my course I was entered for the D&AD Global Student Awards 2006, where I was selected Second Prize for best emerging Product Design & Innovation for the Virgin Atlantic category sponsored by Virgin Atlantic Airways. I was also given the opportunity to put forward my product idea for the University Business Enterprise Completion 2006 and was selected Third Prize winner for best business idea. The unique and holistic approach around this project accomplishments were credited with a short news article that outlined the success around its development.
