Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing in regard to your advertised position of Creative Artworker. I am a commercial artist and designer with extensive studio and freelance experience, working both as a one-man show and as part of a production pipeline.

Much of my freelance work has been in print production, in everything from informational brochures to graphic novel pages. This work, particularly in serial graphic novel and comic production, often has cascading deadlines, which has taught me to plan and prioritise multiple projects, working simultaneously and adapting to client changes as they come up. I have learnt to remain calm and organised under pressure, and tight deadlines requiring fast changes are never permitted to affect the quality of my work.

My studio experience was largely gained at an independent animation company on the east coast of the USA. I was initially contracted as secondary story artist and rough animator for a short film, a position intended to last three months, but I rapidly transitioned to project lead and stayed thirteen months to complete production, managing the entire project for the majority of that time while the permanent staff were busy with other work. I assumed various duties as necessary, including managerial roles in which I oversaw junior colleagues and studio interns during my tenure. Though the contract was difficult and often challenged the boundaries of my comfort zone, the final product was ready by the deadline and I am proud of the work I did for it, both artistically and in terms of project management and coordination.

Software in which I am proficient includes, but is not limited to, the Adobe Creative Suite - especially Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Acrobat and Flash - Microsoft Office, PC and Mac systems. I am comfortable working 100% digitally and using input devices like graphics tablets, though I am also capable of using traditional media if necessary. Aside from my technical skills, I consider my greatest strengths to be my attention to detail, initiative and versatility. I have worked in many styles and am more than capable of adhering to a "house style" or preferred project look. I would be very excited at the opportunity to exercise and expand all of these skills.
