About me
Dear Sir/ Madam,
I would like to express my interest in the position of Assistant Art Director that was recently posted on the Burberry Careers website. I would be most grateful if you
would consider my application for this position.
My enthusiasm for uncovering emerging artists, musicians and designers inspires me to create directional work in a manner parallel to Burberry. This is evident throughout the examples of collaborations with designers and musicians featured on my website and within my work history. I am a graduate of Ravensbourne College of Design and Communication with a First Class BA (Hons) Fashion Promotion and Communication Degree, where I specialised in graphic design, photography and art direction. During my studies I have acquired significant industry experience, working for On|Off, Falguni and Shane Peacock and Dazed and Confused magazine. My training has provided me with the knowledge that appropriate art direction has the ability to capture the true essence of a brand and inspire the consumer. I have
been able to explore this through a variety of print and digital based briefs when designing invites, lookbooks, press releases and publications for industry. I was recently
commissioned to design the limited edition On|Off/ Tuuli newsprint fanzine that was distributed throughout London and Paris Fashion Week.
My latest self-produced publication was an eight month collaboration with emerging South London band LA SHARK. The result was a conceptually based fanzine that portrayed their esoteric world, for which I undertook all of the photography, graphic design and art direction. This was entitled 'LA SHARK: An Anti-Zine' and was a perfect bound publication inspired by the five elements of the pentagram. Each copy was signed by the band, printed on translucent and recycled paper and incorporated a perforated inside to encourage fans to tear out pages. Images are available to
view at *, as I art directed my own work and established the art direction of LA SHARK. I maintained a cohesive and recognisable brand identity throughout which featured on
the publication, invites, posters and t-shirts. This also included a short promotional moving image viral campaign. Using my contacts, I was able to produce a launch party
at Old Blue Last, east London, with selected bands and DJs. The event and zine were promoted online at Dazed and Confused magazine's website dazeddigital.com and
also featured on AnOther Magazine's website anothermag.com.
Having gained my Gold Duke of Edinburgh's award I am confident contributing to a team, working under pressure and taking responsibility for my work. Through organising fashion events for On|Off and designing layouts for Dazed and Confused magazine, I learned the true value of brand and target demographic awareness.
My interests in areas outside of fashion such as history, music and science constantly influence my practice and allow my work a unique vitality and dynamism. I pride myself on my attention to detail, ability to think laterally, my excellent organisational and negotiation skills and time management. These were essential when the printers failed to deliver my publication to the standard required and I needed to re-print and bind, yet I still met my deadline. I thrive in a fast paced environment, am able to make informed independent decisions and am always eager to learn new skills. I am also confident undertaking a challenge in a limited timeframe, as proved when designing the newsprint On|Off fanzine in under two weeks. With an in-depth knowledge of InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator and an inherent understanding of the Burberry brand, I feel that I would be an ideal candidate for this position. Burberry is a brand that I feel a complete affinity with and have always aspired to work for. I would truly welcome the opportunity to contribute to such an innovative, iconic and influential team.
Please find attached my CV. If you would like to request a copy of my publication, please do not hesitate to contact me. For a reference please contact Lee Lapthorne

Thank you for your time, I look forward to hearing from you.
Yours Sincerely,
Gemma Louise Wilson.
