About me
The extensive and varied experience I have gained in both my personal and professional life in past 15 years, allow me to apply for this position with confidence. The skills I have developed in my career to date, combined with my motivated, creative outlook ensure I can deal with the many challenges presented by this role. Currently I am working as the Camera Operator and Film Editor at the Royal Botanical Gardens, Kew, as well as pursuing a successful career as a freelance filmmaker.
Having Graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University with a degree in Television Production, I developed my passion for Filmmaking, in particular in relation to the arts and theatre. My skills in this field were honed during my time working at the Belgrade Theatre where I was employed as a Camera Operator and Theatre Technician. I gradually built up my skillset to take on complex and advanced freelance projects, before moving into the Arts and Heritage sector at the Science Museum. From here I progressed onto my current role at the Royal Botanical Gardens Kew.
Kew Gardens is a large multi-site organisation with a diverse field of expertise. This has meant that my role is equally varied in the scope of the work I do. A large proportion of my workload as a filmmaker is focussed on producing promotional sound and moving image material, as well as more developed advertising campaigns such as Christmas at Kew and the Spices Festival. The content I produce is not restricted to just marketing outlets, I am required to shoot interviews, scientific research symposiums and talks, often using multi camera setups. I also cover larger events such as the Kew the Music concerts and the Write on Kew Literary Festival, which this year featured Michael Morpurgo's War Horse. My current role demands that I work closely with both internal and external communication teams and I have helped develop strong links with the digital media, marketing and PR departments at Kew. This has been integral in helping to interpret complex briefs and develop an idea into a coherent film with a solid narrative that focusses on the target demographic and has the highest productions values. As well as producing new content, I often have to work with and edit existing footage from expeditions and interviews. I use Kew's digital asset management system to retrieve this material and also to store completed films and rushes for future use. This demands that I have an excellent knowledge of file naming, keywording and metadata standards. It has been an exciting time to join the organisation, as my work has been vital in promoting how the new Branding guidelines are implemented across the entire organisation. This has ensured that my attention to detail regarding quality standards and house style remains consistent throughout my work. At Kew I am responsible for every stage of the creative process, from ideas generation, briefing, lighting, sound, filming, editing, post production and content delivery.
