About me
Dear Sir/Madam
I would like to be considered for the role of Entry Level Design Assistant, advertised on the Creativepool website. I consider myself highly creative and hardworking, and bring these qualities to everything I endeavour. Though my past experience I have built a strong and eclectic creative skill base, in areas such as graphic design, film, web design and promotion, that I only wish to further. I feel that my this experience combined with an aptitude and passion to learn would make a position at your company mutually beneficial.
Through my educational experience studying both for a Foundation Degree in Design and a BA in Fine Art at Central St Martin's, London I have developed a strong knowledge base and passion for design and aesthetics, as well as theoretical and practical proficiency in various mediums such as digital, print and film. Moreover, I am able communicate visual concepts in both team or small group settings; I love bouncing around creative ideas and helping realise the ideas of others as well as working independently on my own projects.
I regularly work as a freelance graphic designer and film maker. I produce work in multiple mediums, both print and online, for various promoters and outlets, following briefs often to tight deadlines (just last night I was contacted at 9pm to produce work for a feature in DJ Mag and this needed to be completed by the morning, which I did). Though I mainly working in the medium of print and online, I have also worked with textiles. For example, I have had experience of producing costumes for film projects and designing T-shirts for a music group; one T-shirt went on to be sold in Selfridges, London. This experience has made me highly proficient in Mac and Windows, using a wide range of design software including Photoshop and Illustrator.
In the medium of film I have worked as part of a crew on numerous film shoots as well as directing my own short films, where I have demonstrated an ability to work as a member of a team taking up various roles when communicating complex visual ideas to large groups.
I also work as an event organiser, promoting and DJing various events, such as curating a film and music showcase at the Richmix Culture Centre in Bethnal Green and running a successful monthly club night previously at the Old Blue Last, currently at the Macbeth in Hoxton.
Although I will post a link to my website containing examples of my work below, I feel that being able to attend an interview with a physical portfolio, perhaps with some work prepared to a brief of your choosing, would be the best way to demonstrate my skills, and prove that I am an excellent candidate for this position.
I look forward to hearing back from you.
Yours sincerely,
Gavin McNicholl
