About me
I am a published writer of short fiction, poetry and non-fiction, having had work appear in print and online in journals and magazine such as The Quietus, The Journal of Wild Culture, Structo, Unthology, Elsewhere, Litro and many more, and I write regularly for the website Unofficial Britain (). I am experienced in working to deadlines and sticking to work counts, ensuring work is submitted on time in the correct format and house style.
I am the founder of and co-director at independent publisher Influx Press (). Since forming in 2011, we have published nine titles and an additional two e-books, with two more titles coming in 2015. Influx is an ongoing project run in my spare time. The experience I have gained running such an organisation is directly applicable to the position being offered.
Through my work at Influx I have developed strong relationships with many poets, short story writers, journalists, novelists, activists and performers across the UK. Influx Press was been nominated as Most Innovative Publisher 2015 for the Saboteur Awards () and received a Grants for the Arts award from the Arts Council in 2014 following a successful application that I wrote. We recently curated an extremely successful day of events at the Stoke Newington Literary Festival, including writers such as Iain Sinclair, Courttia Newland, Tom Chivers and SJ Fowler.
I have commissioned five non-digital titles during my time at Influx - Marshland by Gareth E. Rees, Luxury of the Dispossessed by Dan Duggan, Total Shambles by George F., the forthcoming Imaginary Cities by Darran Anderson and Place Waste Dissent by Paul Hawkins. I have also commissioned three upcoming titles from the open submissions we received in late 2014.
I have also actively been involved with my Co-Founder in commissioning writers and artists for the two anthologies we have produced so far, Acquired for Development By... and Connecting Nothing With Something.
I personally create much of the copy for the Influx Press website, writing cover blurbs for our titles, contributing myself to the blog and the Anti Canon essay series, and updating and maintaining copy for our events and information pages.
I am also a freelance fiction editor for the long running literary magazine, Ambit, where my duties involve reading all the submitted copy and selecting the very best of the work that is sent to us. We receive many hundreds of submissions and accept only approximately 1% of them, so having high standards and a keen eye for exceptional writing is crucial.
