ABOUT
Context
In a world marked by war, persecution, and natural disasters, over 130.8 million refugees are expected to need support by 2024. Many seek refuge in the U.S., but face immense legal and cultural barriers — especially artists who are often overlooked.
Insight
While physical borders divide, music connects. The U.S. offers an O-1 visa for individuals with extraordinary abilities in the arts — a rare legal path to residency for refugee musicians.
Idea
Spotify launched Refugee Records, the first digital record label designed to give immigrant and refugee artists a platform — and a future. By helping them release music and build cultural relevance, the initiative also supports their legal path to residency through the O-1 visa, offering both visibility and vital legal support.
Execution
From storytelling to sonic production, the label uses Spotify’s platform and audience to spotlight refugee talent, turning their music into proof of artistic excellence — and giving them a real shot at a new life.
