About me

I have just completed my final year of a four-year integrated masters degree at The University of Nottingham, where I studied Product Design and Manufacture Engineering (MEng). I am looking for an exciting career in Product Design where I can develop my skills further in the working environment. I am a highly driven professional individual with aspirations to work in challenging situations as I work well under pressure and enjoy working alone or in a team environment.

I am passionate about producing high-quality work and love the challenge and process of applying my sketching, model making, CAD and IT skills to transform a brief into a user-centred manufacturable design. My experience of working on large client group projects, smaller more specialised, but equally critical client tasks, and independently has developed me into a detail-focused design engineer. I have worked on a wide range of products with clients and companies in various industries during my degree.

I am particularly interested to develop my skills and even more excited to gain insight and exposure to new markets to specialise in. I am passionate about producing high-quality work and love the challenge and process of working within a team in order to meet a client brief. I wish to work as a product designer in the future and I believe that I will add to any team and grow as a designer.

Product Design and Manufacture Engineering Integrated Masters MEng: 2.1

Client Project:

The Konua Luxury Caravan Range is the highly commended complete design overhaul of the TripBuddy Anyone ultra-lightweight single axel compact tourer, created in partnership with TripBuddy. As team leader, I showcased my abilities in working fruitfully with a firm to create a new up-market, high-end caravan range for surfing enthusiast clients. The complete top-down redesign inspired a new internal and external form and styling whilst meeting constraints on footprint, legislation and MIRO load requirements. My role as a leader was to drive the entire internal space redesign for the surfing enthusiast clients, from the kitchen, bathroom, and multi-use sleeping and living area, to the wardrobe, entertainment provisions and even roof rack. The final concept was formally presented to the Senior Management of TripBuddy where the Konua Range was deemed an overwhelming success, with various elements adopted to their other ranges.

Major Project:

The culmination of 5 months of research, exploration, product development and refinement merged with skills amassed over my experiences in education and industry led to the creation of Ski PAL; an innovative piste assistive learning device that helps beginners focus on the basic fundamental skills of skiing in a controlled, safe and stepwise way. The product promotes effective and efficient technique across all user ages to ensures progression is evident throughout the learning process whilst helping to increase returning skier numbers. An element which is critical for increased resort revenue and long-term ski industry growth. Ski Pal is designed with customisation and adaptability in mind, with modular parts and stepwise adaptations creating tangible progression for all user ages. Ski Pal improves ski learning for novice skiers by; removing communication barriers present between novice skier and instructor seen in traditional instructor to novice learning; providing novice skiers with confidence to learn without judgement and increased accessibility with lower costs than traditional instructor based lessons. Ski PAL also provides; balance support and posture promotion, ski position control, anti-crossover and snow plough ski tip arc assistance; and snow plough ankle rotation control assistance.

Design for the Future Projects:

The 2018 Beyond the Kitchen Table: SORTED product concept challenged the way in which waste management and recycling within the kitchen space presents challenges for the elderly and led to my selection and submission to the Royal School of Arts Student Design Awards. Thorough and exhaustive research led to the discovery that dementia sufferers in particular, often experience sensory difficulties that make very simple tasks, such as waste management and recycling, overwhelming which can lead to an increase in feelings of isolation, anxiety, agitation, confusion, depression and poor health. This led to the creation of Sorted; a recycling storage and sorting kitchen bin that is inclusive and intuitive whilst engaging dementia sufferers through affordance design principles. Sorted reduces memory recall needs; promotes bin sanitation through easy to clean surfaces; eliminates smells through odour absorbent technology; and captures accidental disposal of valuables in filter drawers.
