About me
An imaginative writer and meticulous picture researcher with over 20 years of experience working in the publishing industry: 15 years as a freelance picture researcher, 3 years working in a busy documentary photography library in London, and 2 years as a freelance writer. Researched and contributed both words and images for a diverse range of academic, educational, literary and arts titles. Works to tight deadlines and has excellent visual analysis and communication skills.
Completed an MA in Creative Writing from Aberystwyth University, gaining a distinction for the final portfolio on ecopoetry. Recent articles and reviews have been published in the 'inspiring yet down to earth' gardening quarterly Rakes Progress, and Wales' leading literary magazine, The New Welsh Review. Research interests include: literature and the arts; the relationship between image and text; nature and ecology.
Conducted picture research for Oxford University Press, using a wide variety of sources, primarily on their 'Very Short Introduction' series; titles have included African History, Ancient History, Herodotus, Geopolitics, The History of Life, HIV/AIDS and Racism. Other recent projects have included books on Slavery in the Visual Cultures of Brazil and America, Dickens and the Workhouse, Apartheid in South Africa and Shakespeare's Richard II. Also researched many projects for Heinemann Library, a children's educational book publisher on subjects including history, science, sport and vocational studies.
