About me

Dear Sir/ Madam,

I am writing in response to your request for a graphic designer, as advertised on creativepool.co.uk. I am a 2010 Textiles graduate of Manchester Metropolitan University. During my degree studies I developed those skills required to become a designer. Modules included; Research and Ideas Development, drawing and colour work and essay and journal writing. The Research and Ideas Development unit, left me with knowledge of how to effectively organise and collate information and find a variety of ways for it to fuel projects and also an ability to present research considerately. It has also given me significant skills in Drawing and colour work and developed the many ways I can approach this area, whether it be through the use of CAD design or hand-drawing and painting. My degree has also seen my written and vocal communication skills develop to a great level of confidence.

Shortly after graduating my design work was selected by a freelance design company Birkett Designs Ltd, and I have been successfully working with them over 5 months, completing designs within the ceramic and greeting cards industry. Working within these contexts on a variety of themes requires a very pro-active work ethic and a creative approach, whilst also giving high consideration to the specific market and clients taste. I have been successful in selling designs for ceramic to a company in the home wares market. More recently I have also been completing kids wear designs for another freelance design agency Millie Loves Rosie, as I am eager to take on new design projects and also enjoy working between multiple projects at a time.

Freelance projects have given me the opportunity to exercise many skills including; meeting deadlines and targets at short notice, organisation of work load and a need to prioritise, an ability to work to open-ended and/or detailed briefs, as briefs supplied by Birkett Designs have tended to be much looser, than that of the design agency Millie Loves Rosie.
I now wish to see myself in a team-orientated environment, providing support to others where needed and working successfully within a team. I aspire to become part of a team with its own goals and ambitions working in an effective way to meet the company's targets. I appreciate the feeling of job-satisfaction that meeting deadlines, goals and ambitions can give. Which have experienced whilst working on freelance design projects, for example; by meeting tight deadlines I have successfully provided Birkett Designs with work to supply to a client.

I have a lot to offer your company; I have developed reliable skills in communication, organisation and prioritising workloads; I realise and enjoy the roles that teamwork and independence can give. Following the start of a freelance career I have experience of what an important part research and interpretation of colour and subject trends can play, in order to explore new unexpected outcomes, which at the same time are applicable to the client. I also see the production of high quality work as undisputedly worth-while and I would therefore approach quality assurance with great focus and determination.

Please refer to my attached CV for more information. I would welcome the opportunity to discuss my application further with you.

Yours Sincerely,

Fiona Chapman
