About me
Estella(Qianwen) Wang is a writer, filmmaker, performer, painter, musician and engineer. Her interests cover a wide range of areas - self-discovery, profound connections and transitions between things, bridge that
connects art with science, nature, and dreaming process. The artworks of Estella's often convey a sense of surreal fantasy, which resulted from her experiences with sci-fi stories she's exposed to during childhood,
when she could only seek mental refuge in an unreal world full of dazzling technologies, bizarre magic, daring adventures and strong friendships.
Before coming to UK training to be a professional contemporary artist in Royal College of Art, she spent seven years conducting academic research in the area of engineering in China, whilst developing her enthusiasm in art through painting and novel-writing during off-campus time. Her engineering background gives her unique perspectives when making art. Inspired by programming language, Estella likes to reuse her old art pieces and manipulate which with new artworks as if they are basic programming codes and then create something that will tell stories in unconventional ways.
Throughout the academic year spent in Royal College of Art, she has developed different art-making skills by participating various workshops supported by school that include moving image, sound, photography,
future materials, digital embroidery, metal, wood, CNC, and UV printing. She's currently focused on creating artworks through experimentation with mixed media.
