About me

My name is Esteban Damiani and I am a bilingual researcher who enjoys designing research projects about education, public policies and online communities. Because of these personal interests, I have taught sociology in the past, completed a teaching certificate, worked in relation to public policies and have recently finished a master programme in digital sociology at Goldsmiths College. Before undertaking this postgraduate course, I completed a six-year programme in Sociology at the University of Buenos Aires. These two programmes provided me with a solid background in both quantitative and qualitative research methods; the MA in digital sociology was also a great opportunity to learn how to apply the latest tools for digital communication strategies.

I have worked in both large organisations and small teams for different companies in the UK and abroad. These experiences included coordination of small research teams and organising activities in large organisations, such as the Argentine Ministry of Education, or multinational companies, such as Ipsos-MORI and Millward Brown. In all these experiences, the knowledge gained through literature reviews and practice was very important to understand different ways for reaching specific audiences and achieving the particular research aims. I have expertise in working on public affairs, public services, such as heath and transport, and marketing research in the energy and car industry. I succeeded in bringing new alternatives to facilitate the work and improve existing strategies. In addition, I developed a good eye for detail, high sense of responsibility and good criteria to take decisions independently when I was working as a Research Manager at CEDES and Excelentia in 2005 and 2006.

As a researcher working directly with governmental agencies, I was directly involved in the use of highly confidential data and the dissemination of research results. Excellent planning and management skills were essential to coordinate several activities and supervise the work of different people.

As part of these experiences, I had to master the whole Microsoft Office package and other programmes for statistical analysis (SPSS, SNAP), presentations and video making. My enthusiasm in communicating with audiences and developing skills played a crucial role in learning how to use new tools in very little time. Similarly, I learnt how to develop searching engine optimisation techniques and used Google Analytics to disseminate online content through social websites.

Regarding presentations and writing skills, I wrote reports and created dynamic power point presentations for local and international audiences during my previous jobs. The use of interactive maps with IMD on Milton Keynes was a different way of presenting data for the Local Authority regeneration projects. My skills at synthetising and presenting research on online communities to expert audiences were demonstrated recently during my participation in the 2012 ISA World Forum in Buenos Aires.
