About me

Please find a copy of my CV attached in application to the position of Copywriter, as advertised on creativepool.co.uk

Currently, I work full-time as a Features Writer for a company who publish regional lifestyle magazines covering a broad range of subjects, as well as books. A great deal of my time sees me working closely with advertisers, as part of their marketing campaign, in order to produce original, attention-grabbing copy that meets their requirements. Please find attached examples of such work.

With seven magazines requiring editorial content, I can have up to 40 pieces at any one time to manage, which means my organisational skills are second-to-none. All my work has to be project managed from the initial brief through to print. This sees me liaise with the relevant people depending on the feature/business promotion, and in many instances I have to source these contacts myself. Photographs to accompany the editorial have to be arranged and I also work closely with the Sub Editors on the layout of the page(s).

My current employer is responsible for producing the Sheffield Chamber of Commerce magazine, with a separate Editor who writes and compiles the publication. However, he is aware of my excellent proof reading skills and regularly asks me to proof his work to maintain the high standards that the magazine is renowned for.

Working directly with the charity, Christian Aid, and television chef, Kevin Woodford, I was also chosen to edit a cookbook. The process allowed me to highlight my capabilities, from proof-reading every page to tracking down missing information and ensuring that everyone was working in sync and to deadline.

Alongside the offline projects, I produce 10 monthly pieces for a website established by the company in 2010. To attract the intended target market - unlike the magazines - the copy has to be irreverent, showing that my style of writing is easily adaptable.

In the absence of my Managing Editor, whether it's for one day or two weeks, I am able to put my strong management skills to use. As the longest-serving Feature Writer, I feel that it is my natural role to take his place, so that my fellow colleagues have a point of contact if any problems arise, and to ensure that all editorial deadlines are met. A Managing Director of the company has commented on my impressive leadership skills.

Highly organised and adept at prioritising, I have the relevant communication and editorial skills required to make me an outstanding wordsmith, ensuring that attention to detail is maintained at all times. I am ambitious with a desire to progress and constantly improve my skills and knowledge.

Thank you for your consideration. I look forward to hearing from you.

Kind Regards,

Emma Steele
