About me

My name is Emma Coupland and I am a recent graduate from The University of Huddersfield. I have a bachelors degree in Fashion Manufacture, Marketing and Promotion and I graduated in July 2010.

During my time at University I completed a placement year and I worked as an assistant designer for a UK fancy dress manufacturer. My roles at the company included helping the senior designers with CADs and putting the samples into work. I had regular contact with the far east, liasing with designers in China and Hong Kong, as well as the sample room in China. I also attended regular meetings with buyers when the time came to build their ranges each season. It was also my job to keep the sample library, ensuring samples around the office could be easily found by filing the samples in a logical order. I worked alongside technologists, merchandisers and account managers and i learnt a lot about the important working relationship that a company needs to have.
Since completeing my placement year and graduating University, i have since returned to the same company to help them with the work load during their busiest periods.

At University, I worked on many design projects for Womens and Menswear, and for my final collection i designed a range of jeans and casual jersey wear for Men. I thoroughly enjoyed working on my final collection and manufacturing the garments. To go alongside my final collection of garments, i produced a manufacture report which included specifications packs, size charts and pattern grading. This part of the course made me more aware of the design and production of garments and all the components that go into the entire production of the garment.

I am a fast and eager learner, I enjoying learning new things and working to the best of my ability. I love to be creative with the work I do above all else I enjoy designing. I can work as part of a large team or as an individual and have experience working to fast paced deadlines. I am a good time keeper and always present myself in a professional manner.
