Emily's work

About Emily

Who I am

As a recent graduate from Oxford University with a master's in English Literature, experience in PR & Marketing, and in founding and running an online art, literature and architecture magazine, I believe that I am well-equipped with the creative potential and skill-set to fit seamlessly into this position and make an excellent contribution to a work team.

Why I would be great for the job

1) I am creative, proactive and switched on to all things digital. In January 2015 I founded and created Foci Magazine, which won the Deutsche Bank Award for Creative Enterprises in May this year, just after the publication of issue 3:

Website: focimagazine

My Articles: focimagazine/author/emily

2) I am a good communicator. As well as writing for Foci, running its social media pages and acting as Chief Editor of all written content, I have also written for print newspaper The Oxford Student, and have been working as a Copywriter for new luxury travel company Our Very Best, selling destinations and holiday experiences in their unique brand voice.

My CV demonstrates that I have lots of experience in client-facing roles, both over the phone and in person, and that I have experience of contacting press and journalists to pitch stories. I love talking to people, setting myself challenges, and working as part of a team with shared objectives.

3) I have writing, editing and proofreading experience in the medical field. During my time at Hampson Hughes one of my biggest responsibilities was reviewing client medical records and writing reports on them.

4) I am not fussy and I know how to graft. During my time at Hampson Hughes Solicitors I was put in charge of over 300 clients in a new, very busy and understaffed department. I loved the challenge of having to keep on top of steadily mounting piles of paperwork and lists of phone calls, and found great satisfaction in leaving my desk organised and emptied at the end of each week. This work ethic I would bring with me to the team.

As well as this, the fact that I have spent the past year studying for a master's at Oxford whilst running a magazine, working as Arts and Culture Officer for my college, copywriting for a travel company, and tutoring across a variety of subjects, also demonstrates my drive, organisation, time-management skills, ambition to develop, and the fact that I am not afraid of hard work.

5) I am experienced in website management. Running the Foci website has provided me with a good understanding of CMS, SEO and online marketing, and through Google Analytics I have learnt to efficiently use data to analyse consumer trends in online content. I have become familiar with the sort of content that grabs attention.

I am a fast learner and with my variety of different work experiences I believe I am very well-suited for this Creative Copywriting position. I hope to be able to discuss my suitability for the role further with you at interview.

Yours Sincerely,

Emily Parker
