About me

My name is Ella Jacobs and I'm a photography student currently taking a gap year before I head off to Leeds Arts University to start my degree in Fashion Photography. I'm determined to use the next 12 months to develop my skills in the real world.

I have been studying photography at school for 5 years and have loved it, expanding my knowledge and skills in many aspects, as proven by my A* grade at GCSE with the same predicted for the A Level I have just completed (along with Maths and Economics).

During my studies and work experiences I have learnt how to use a studio and its equipment effectively, whilst I'm equally confident with a film camera (something I love using). I can develop film using proper dark room techniques, in addition to experimenting with light (solarisation) to create different outcomes. I have taught myself how to use Photoshop to a pretty decent level too, enabling me to edit my images to fit the theme and tone of my shoots.

I've been lucky enough to have had work experience with some top photographers and studios that included working as an assistant on photo shoots for brands like Hugo Boss and Augustinus Bader as well as on Sheridan Smith's most recent album cover to name but a few. These experiences have given me a brief insight into the industry, what it entails and how much is involved to make sure everything runs smoothly. On these shoots I have worked with incredible people who taught me how to build sets, work professional camera equipment and even understand the basics of the Capture One programme.
