Learn how to use the pencil
Creation of Figurative/Fashion Drawing and Portrait Drawing; Design of Creative Tutoring Campaign
The understanding of the pencil as a simple whilst powerful tool and how to adapt it across different styles and to develop a unique handwriting. The pencil extends beyond mechanical skill and involves a conscious engagement and at-first observation of light and shadow, movement, proportions.
Increasing observing skills is essential. Seeing and understanding before drawing is in fact more important than the mechanical act. The observing time versus the drawing time can be 3:2 in the beginning when drawing after a template. The Pencil use requires the mastery of pressure control, which directly influences tonal variation, spatial depth, direction, speed, hardnesses and pencil strokes contribute to the expressive language of drawing as well as the synergy of sharpness and softness. In figurative, fashion, and portrait drawing it is a key factor to extend body proportion, posture, body dynamic and gesture leading to stylisation and abstraction.
