About me

My name is Elen Mawer I am a young aspiring content creator based in the UK, I have a love for both the production and editing sides of content creation and frequently learn new skills to aid this. I enjoy working in fast paced environment and am reliable when it comes to meeting deadlines, this is added to my ability to listen to those around me and take on necessary criticism in order to improve for future projects. I like learning new skills and improving old ones, meaning I am willing to give everything a go. Film and TV has always interested me, whether that be watching Doctor Who with my Dad or going to the cinema with friends, but what has always fascinated me most is what goes into making a film and the roles involved which has inspired me to pursue a career in the Film and TV industry. I have a love for history and documentaries particularly when the two are connected, as this allows you to learn more about what happened in the past in a visually interesting way. I enjoy watching new films and learning about why the directors and producers used different techniques and how they did it, I find it really intriguing and want to learn more about how to use these techniques myself.

During my time at school, I was lucky enough to study creative media production at post 16, allowing me to further develop my interest in the industry and gain skills in production. The course has allowed me to work collectively on a few different projects, from live multi-camera shows to music videos, providing me the skills to be able to listen to others and work well collaboratively to achieve the best product possible. This has given me the chance to work with different cameras and somewhat learn how they work, I really enjoyed learning about how to frame different shots and what meaning and emotion this can portray. It also gave me the experience of what working on a set is like and what roles are involved, this has made me realise just how much work goes into a film, further cementing my want to be a part of it. These projects have helped me to develop good organisational skills, as I balance school, a job and life in general. I have helped to record a number of live showcases at school, and this has given me experience of recording live shows and working quickly to frame good shots.

I had the opportunity to work as a camera operator for filming my school's production of The Snow Queen, performed at The Old Rep in Birmingham by both student and professional actors. I worked alongside industry professionals to record the performance; this gave me invaluable experience of what working in the professional world can be like and skills I can use on future productions. I learnt how to work well in a team and listen to those around me, to ensure that the production runs smoothly with clear communication throughout. Therefore, I really want to learn more about how the crew work together to achieve the best production. More recently I took on the role of technical manager for BOA TV, a student rum TV station at my school, this role involves setting up and positioning cameras before live theatre shows and ensuring that everything runs smoothly throughout the productions that take place. Additionally, I spend my weekends working at a garden centre, where I work with a range of different colleagues and customers to ensure customers are satisfied with their products and service. This job has aided me in developing my confidence when talking to others and developed my teamwork skills.
