About me
After graduating with a First in Interior Architecture in 1994, Dug worked freelance as a Designer/Maker - this led to a role as Lead Theme Designer for Explore At-Bristol. He is a versatile Interpretative Designer with a broad range of experience, and has delivered many successful museum interpretation and visitor attraction projects including The Roald Dahl Museum & Story Centre, The Discover Story Centre and Gorilla Kingdom at London Zoo. Dug's recent projects include the delivery of challenging outdoor interpretation trails, family orientated visitor activities and mobile narrative audio interpretation. Dug is now Design Director of Outside Studios.

Currently overseeing installation phase., Concept, exhibit development and detail: Occupied : Behind Barbed Wire, Jersey Museum., Concept, exhibit development, detailed design and delivery of Solo Gallery, The Roald Dahl Museum & Story Centre., Concept, exhibit development, detailed design and delivery of Wild Watch for the Forestry Commission Scotland., Concept and exhibit development of Heartlands Exhibition, Cornwall. Exhibition currently in detailed design phase., SENIOR PROJECT DESIGNER - BREMNER & ORR DESIGN CONSULTANTS, (APRIL 2001 - SEPT 2008) :, Senior Project Designer responsible for brief development, concept development and project delivery, projects include:, Gorilla Kingdom : a £5M enclosure for great apes with entirely outdoor interpretation including tracking trail, field camp, themed play and donation point., The Bullring Gallery : development and design of timeline gallery detailing the history of Birmingham, as told through the development of The Bullring., The Explorers Gallery : extensive refit of Torquay Museum’s ethnographic collection. Stories of explorers told through the objects they collected., Discover : design development of a story centre in East London., Roald Dahl Museum & Story Centre : development and delivery of a biographical museum and story-making centre in existing listed stable buildings and coach house. Visitors learn about the life and work of the great author, then are challenged to develop their own story making ability through a number of hands on / brains on interactives., Waterworks : the fitting of an exhibition area into a new building in northeast London - looking at the ‘naturalisation’ of a derelict sewage treatment plant and its ultimate conversion into a nature reserve., Cadw / Time Detectives : concept development, design and delivery of a visitor trail highlighting the history and stories around Conwy Castle in North Wales. The challenge was to enthuse family groups, to increase dwell time and to communicate some of the true history of the site. A ‘Time Detective’ trail was developed with a series of ‘secret’ clues to unveil.
