About me
I swam with sharks for The Wall Street Journal, scavenged wild mushrooms in Yunnan for CNN, and followed Russian woolly mammoth ivory traders for China Daily. Born in Omaha, Nebraska, I have written extensively on environmental issues, indigenous issues, arts and culture, and various scientific topics. Sports journalism provided my entry into professional writing. Teaching allowed my career to go global. After five years in Hong Kong, my father's terminal cancer diagnosis pulled me back. After three years as executive editor of Omaha Magazine and subsidiary publications (named 2018 Great Plains Magazine of the Year), I am now working on the biography of a Native American orphan who discovered family and tribe at age 62 (while also wrapping up my M.A. in sociology).
